Installed a CPP 4 wheel conversion on my 67. I was concerned with the placement of the proportioning valve, but was assured this was the correct position. I should be able to bend the lines around the bellcrank, but the header rests right up against the proportioning valve. Will this screw up brake performance by overheating the fluid? What are your suggestions? Can I get away with what I have and try to get some kind of thermal barrier between the two, or do I need to relocate the valve and make new lines?

some have reported success with moving the valve to the top of the frame, but Bob's suggestion is better long run. beside, you'll get to learn how to bend and flare brake lines. :)

Thanks guys, I will relocate it. Tom, I have bent and flared plenty of brake lines! The reason I paid what I did for the complete kit was so I could bolt it in with the body off the frame and the engine out and only have minor adjustments when I got everything back together. If I wanted to fabricate everything myself I wouldn't have wasted the money! Sorry for the rant, just a little frustrated with how this turned out.

so you were thinking that complete kit advertised as for stock original was just going to fit with headers? It'll work with stock manifolds....

My headers come pretty close to my prop valve, and it has never been a problem...but not THAT close.

I don't think you can blame CPP for this, that looks like the stock prop valve location. I'd say that's a header problem.

I wouldn't normally have an issue with it since it is the stock location, however I contacted them before I purchased the kit and let them know my exact application. After I received the kit, I contacted them again because the kit I thought I was getting (which turns out to be for a 66) had the PV located almost right underneath the MC. I told them my concerns and my application again, and I was going to send it back and get the 66 setup which I thought looked better anyway. They assured me that what I got was correct for 67 and would work with my application. So I went ahead and installed it. I'm not trying to be an ass, but I was pretty specific with what I was installing this in and figured that it was not a unique setup and if they said it would work, it was based on their experience with similar setups. I have contacted them, and they basically told me the same thing. Tough luck, your application isn't stock, it's not our fault it doesn't fit. Lesson learned I guess.

Looking closer at that valve---not in the right place
Should be back farther.
Looks like you may have it mounted where the 66 distribution block mounts.

Where it is placed now, that front brake line is under the control arm----should be back behind it.

This is not really gonna help you with the clearance as it appears moving the valve back will give you less.

I'll try to get a pic of my 66 this afternoon--------has all the lines and distribution blocks of a 67

I see your point, for sure.

Okay-----the valve is NOT in the right place

It does not go where I 'thought' is should either.
(Been a while since I drove that car--let alone open the hood)

The factory location for this valve is actually on TOP of the frame
just in front of the bellcrank.

the actual 67 piece has a bracket that is part of the valve and it holds the valve
up and over the top of the frame.

My car is a 66------BUT-----it uses all of the lines and valves for a 67

here are a couple of pics-----sorry for the pisspoor cellphone quality
the body shop where I park the car was a bit dark and it was very cloudy outside so
no light came thru the skylights

In the second picture----the rear brake line comes up from underneath
the bellcrank, goes back toward the rear of the car, and then bends around (horozontal 180*) to connect to the back of the valve.

If you look closely, just above the lower control mount you can see part of the valve bracket and the bolt securing it to the frame.

I looked for a pic of just the frame after I put the lines in----don't have one.
the fuel lines and brake lines were put on the frame before the body was set on it.

Bryan's pictures are correct for a 67. they use a bracket the bolts to the inside of the frame. the bracket is aprox. 5 inches or so long. the the distribution valve mounted to the drivers side of the bracket placing it over the edge of the frame. I made a short bracket up that bolted in the same location as stock and mounted the cpp disk proportioning valve off of it. it clears the Z bar, the brake lines clear the headers. Easy fix.

Thanks for all of the input guys. At this point I think I am just going to remove all of the lines and fabricate my own once I get everything in place and I know what I have to maneuver around. All of your observations are the same that I shared and why I had so many questions for CPP. I'm just pretty confused because the line lengths and bend geometry (I didn't re-bend anything) necessitated the way I have it mounted now. The piece that I started with to locate everything was the right front that goes under the engine. It lined up perfectly and followed the contour of the frame. The connection into the PV drove it to that location and mounting angle. The fact that all of the other lines then lined up perfectly with no modification is too much to be coincidence. I think it was designed to mount exactly as I have it? I am still going to fabricate my own lines, but if anyone that has this exact kit (Sold through OPGI as CH27018) installed and working correctly in their 67, I would be very interested in a few pics of the setup.
