I hope I haven't pissed off too many people with my post about the prices of these cars. I wasn't trying to get anyone upset if thats what I did. But anyway how much would an original cowl induction hood with all the components and a M-22 cost. Just a ballpark guess would be nice. I have heard around 500 for the hood but no idea about the transmission.

think more like 1500 for the hood & 1500-2000 for a true M22 in good shape.

The cowl hood, new from any cat. is in round numbers 300.00,then all the flapper parts, vacuum, wiring, etc,is another 100.00, then the m22 is at least 2000.00 for a rebuilt.. then the parts and whistles for all the above and paint is another 1100.00 the total====3500.00//////// ballpark.. ask me how I know. right..... good luck.phil......... just reread dreis454,we agree...

I don't think you can get all of the cowl induction pieces (minus the hood) to make it function for anywhere near $100.00 - I have $80.00 into the actuator for the outer door and the check valve and a couple of bolts. You still need the inner flapper, cowl screen, throttle switch, and the flapper door. (I'm sure I missed some things) And that is assumeing that you already have the air cleaner.

It might look kind of dumb to some people but I am planning on buying a 70 4 door that I have known about for a while. And if I can get a hold of a cowl hood I was thinking of putting that on there and painting it silver ,with the rest of the car, and putting some black stripes on it. What do you guys think of a 4-door having a cowl hood on it, and a dash out of a ss? Which brings me to my next question how much would a gallon of silver , and a quart of black acrylic enamel or lacquer cost? I don't want to screw around with the base coat clear coat stuff.

I never once said anything about trying to clone an SS. I just happen to like the cowl hoods. And I don't like the standard dashes. If you would of read my post closely you would have seen that I already have a dash I could use. I am going to keep the cowl hood and put the flat hood that came with it back on it when I sell it. Putting the different hood has nothing to do with trying to pass it off as an SS clone. I don't like it when people try to clone even a 2-door into an SS.

I know I just get a little hot headed real quick if I hear something like that it was my bad. Thats fine what you said. It was just the fact that I thought you were saying I was trying to clone an SS when I dont like it when people do that.

what's wrong with cloning an SS?

I don't see anything wrong with it.
If you want your Chevelle to look like an SS, then go for it.
It's not illegal. Just do it.
What's the big deal?

It's not so much the cloning that bothers me so much. It's when the people try to pass it off as the real deal and then try to sell it for what the original super sports bring or even more. That is what irritates me but other than that I really don't have a problem with it.

Well, I'd have to agree with ya there.
But as always, Buyer Beware

Hey al white, its philbay.. That wasnt nice of you..ha.ha.. I wanted to put the cowl hood on myself but when I saw what it was going to cost, almost what I paid for a new 70 ls6 in 1970, I gave it up. Al, by the way I paid 3841.00. We actually bought two identical ls6s except one blue and the other red. My guestimate was for used parts, and it was problably low.. ps........ how cold is it there?? im in ny and its been a mild winter except the last few weeks, just cold.. take care phil
