Ok new idea.

This is somewhat a long shot but easily checkable and would explain everything. When I built the motor I put on an adjustable timing chain. The kinda that can go 6 degrees adv or ret. We installed it straight up.

When we started the motor for the first time there was an odd noise coming from the timing chain area, we stopped to check everything we could in the motor. Started it again and it wasnt nearly as bad. Did this a couple times on/off and so forth. After a minute or two of good run time the sound went away.

Now if somehow the adjustment shifted when we started the motor(we loc-tited and torqued the bolts to spec on the timing chain) the rotation of the motor would retard the timing, and eventually it would not be able to retard anymore causing it to stop moving(the sound would stop).

So if the motor is now 12 degrees retarded( I think thats how much it could possibly go, waiting till monday to talk to Mike Wolfplace about this theory). This would explain why the motor didnt come on hard till high rpm.

Also if 1 degree = 100 rpm, then if it is installed straight up where it should be, than that would put my power coming in at 5K since it is coming in at about 6200 right now. We will see!!!

I could be wrong, but if the cam where retarded it would raise the rpm power band and advancing the cam would move the power band down in rpm right?? Its been a long day and I could be out of my mind:D
Although its possible it would be very uncommon to have the adjuster back off. Either way it needs to be checked.

Yes,
Retarded cam timing is more top end power
Adv timing is more bottom end power

Yes right now the cam is 8 degrees retarded, should be straight up or a couple advanced.

Berg said I am blowing atleast 60psi of cylinder pressure out the window. So if I had it straight up it would run the same number if I had 7:1 compression:yes:

Either the cam is ground off or the timing set I have is off. Shoulda checked it when I did the motor but I didnt realize how easy it is to degree a cam.

when are you gonna get to it? if it pulls the wheels with "7.1:1" compression i wonder what its going to do with its full potential..... better get a new bumper:D
I am gona go adjust it in a couple minutes. Then gona scour the town to see if anyone carries gaskets. Like I was telling Darryl its like I hit the nitrous button:D

I think it ought to do a little better freeway burnout nowl:)
