I have some issues with the 290 heads for my motor, one failed the pressure test. I found another bare set, nothing in them, just the casting, not exactly what I wanted, but would work for me. I have them at the machine shop / engine builder. He said the pressure test for the heads is $60 each / $120.00 for the pair, which seems somewhat high but I don't know how long it takes to do the pressure test. I just want to know if this is a fair price prior to doing the rebuild on the heads. What have you guys paid for the same service?

Thanks,

I guess people in Louisana are only making minumum wage if that :( I cant beleive that they can actually pressure test two heads PROPERLY for $35 We get $50 each to pressure test heads here also. Plus if they are greasy it would be an additional $20 to clean the pair first.

Well here in Louisiana, its not what one would call a rich state. But I checked at two different shops here to get my heads checked for cracks by pressure testing. 1st shop - Ace Automotive - 10-15 years in business charged me $35 to do it. (BOTH HEADS) Thats in the city where I live. 2nd shop 20+ yrs Keith Machine Shop (i think thats the correct name) He does all of my mechanics' engines and he does mostly everyones performance engines in Monroe, la and the surrounding cities. He told me $40 for both heads. And I know him personally via my mechanic but i didnt let him do it because he was going to be on vacation the week I wanted it did.

BTW, everyone here doesn't make minimum wage, I'm manager here at CHASE HOME LENDING and I make $20+ per hour and I'm only 23, so minimum wage I think has nothing to do with it. Its more like, here in Louisiana everything just not expensive like it is in the Northern states. You can't charge someone here what you can charge there. Cost of living is cheap here.

But hey I can't argue with someone and their prices. If they choose to do it for only $35-$50 then by all means necessary I will let them do it. Another thing is I know of another shop in Dallas, Tx that charges $30 each so I think it's all about where you live. I understand what you're saying but that's just the way prices are around here and I'm not going to complain about it. It helps me save alot.:beers:

hey guys, I am in NY just north of the city and it seemed to me that 120.00 for the set was a little steep, but I must have it done prior to any machine work. Does anyone else think this is alot? Thanks for your opinions.
