I just bought a set of 69 chevelle buckets off of Ebay for my 69 Malibu. They are in good shape and I intend to clean them up and throw them straight in as is.

I'm just wondering if I have to do any mods in order to get them in or do they bolt straight up with no problems?

Anyone care to share their experience before I rip out my bench and get started?

PS if anyone needs a good bench frame in the North East, this is a California car with no rust on the brackets or tracks. Just needs some padding on the drivers side and new vinyl.

ummmm ull have to get the seat brackets for the inside of the tracks to bolt down to i think they are 25 or 30 bucks just look for like "Bucket Seat Brackets" u can use a mig or something to weld em down then your seats will bolt right up.....

Get the better quality 4 piece conversion kit. You actually need a couple of other brackets on the outside rail that most kits do not offer. I believe Ground-Up offers the 4 piece kit.

I've seen both kits shown. and if I'm understanding right welding them in is my only option right?

What about the carpet, do I need to completely remove it or can I just remove the chrome sill plates (I think thats what the're called) and pry back the carpet just enough to do the welding?

Yes, you have to weld the brackets. I would think that you would have to remove the carpet, because you want to get the position of the seats right. In order to do that you have to be able to place the brackets and seats on the floor, tack weld the brackets when you get the position right, remove the seats, and finish weld the brackets. I don't see the carpet just being pried away and accomplishing that.

I just ordered the 4 pc. set. They were more money (double) than the two pc set. but hopefully will mount the seat better.
I haven't received them yet though.

i just did the same to my 69. my advise would be to get the two piece brackets. you only need them due to the raised position of the front bolts. use the pre drilled holes for the outside bolts. there are two pre-drilled holes in the rear outside position. pick the one that leaves room for you seat belt retractors then eyeball to make sure the seats look straight. (opps, bolt the brackets to the seats before you sit them in place) line everythig up then spot weld the brackets front and back, pull the seats and finish welding. that's it. you'll love em.
