Any opinions on security systems for convertibles? Restoring a 66 Malibu convertible and am considering my options.

CC, Run a search, you should find several good ideas. Unfortunately they all come with the same guarantee.........None!

My security system is not to lock the doors

Let'em in and then activate the pepper spray device

Seriously there isn't anything special you can do for a convertible unless you get one that activates when somebody tries to reach into the car.

I think the best way to protect a ragtop is to keep all goodies locked in the trunk or glovebox.

If it's in the pass. compartment, you're just asking for a ripped top, and they are real expensive!! so I just leave it unlocked. I would recommend a kill switch or 2.

I'd go for one of the ultrasonic type ones that activate if you reach into an area. Just make sure it doesn't extend past the car if your top's down!

How does this Powerlock system work?? I'm assuming the wire to the solenoid contains a coded signal. If so, then that is a very interesting system indeed.

I wish that web site had more details. I hate that vague information that they have.

The security system for my ragtop is the battery in the trunk with a disconnect switch. They may get in to it but they'll have to tow it away, or break in the trunk.

"Bull Dog" makes a good proximity alarm that you can put most any where in the car and it'll detect reaching in. You just need any regular alarm WITH a proximity trigger also.
