I've got a '70 Elky with A/C and the cable that goes to the cold/hot lever melted because it came in contact with a live wire. I think it would be a good idea to replace the cable before the winter, can it be done without taking the dash off? Could someone tell me where it goes? I traced it and it goes behind the heater box and then somewhere. Any help would be REALLY appreciated.

I just looked at my 70 and can understand why you are having trouble tracing it. Mine is routed from the control towards the steering column, then it looks like it comes back behind the heater box as you stated. I know the final end goes to a temperature door that seperates the AC evaporator core from the heater core.

Sorry I am not much help. Maybe you could see more if you removed just the dash pad. The cable connection should be on top of the box.

That's what I did- took off the dash pad but I had to take the pass. side duct out. If you look straight ahead with it off from the pass. side, you'll see a thing with a cable connected to it, I'm wondering if that's it. I hope that the cable is just connected to that and runs behind the box and doesn't have anything hidden under there. Thanks again!
