There are two wires that go to the coil they are both white and are attached at the end. One wire gets hot when yhe ignition key is on. My question is what is the other wire and where does it go?
Thanks Fred

Well Fred it would be nice to know what kind of vehicle but I can tell you on a 1947 Crosley it goes to.... j/k

It goes to the "R" terminal of the starter solenoid and sends 12 volts to the coil during cranking to by pass the resistive wire that feeds the coil after the engine starts.
It should be yellow, not white.
