I have done a swap to a 4 sp muncie on my 66. I installed the Z bar per assembly manual. I have adjusted the threads up and down on the adjuster thingy but no success. When I do push the pedal down I get a nasty grinding sound. Have I not installed the transmission correctly?

I am guessing the soft pedal has more to do with the return spring. The assembly manual wasn't clear on the installation of the clip on the body. The spring doesn't have good tension. I think I'm going to have to move it further down. Anyone have a decent measurement or a picture?

The return spring has little to do with pedal pressure. The fingers/springs in the clutch assembly are the pressure you feel. If the clutch plate is installed backwards, not hard to do, it can hit the flywheel bolts. When the pedal is out it the plate is locked to the flywheel. When you push the pedal in the pressure releases and allows the plate to spin = grinding noise if installed backwards.

There are other possibilities, this is one.
