I had the opportunity to use our company's largest business jet yeterday for a short day trip. It is a Citation Sovereign 9 passenger. Wow. I thought our other smaller Citation was nice. The Sovereign is our CEO's plane but some of us lucky ones get to use it when he doesn't have it booked.

Anyone on here ever fly one of these things? Talk about acceleration! Not too bad on the stopping side either after touchdown.

No.
But this is what I'll be flying in when we finish the "frame off" restoration in 2-3 more years.

Until my recent promotion, this is what I had been flying in for about the past 11yrs.

By "fly one" do you mean pilot it or ride in it.

I've only had the "opportunity" to fly in the company jet once, but tagging along on with an exec (he was going the same place I was, but for a different reason). But I got bumped and ended up on a charter King Air.

One of the distributors I called on flew a Citation II, eight seat I think counting the seat over the head. Another had a Lear 60, same seat configuration as the Citation II but larger, more elegant. Man, that Lear was a sweet ride!

Hey Dana:

I'm a corporate jet pilot. I've not flown the Sovereign but I hear good things about them from a pilot perspective. I personally fly a Lear 45XR (we got it instead of a Sovereign), a Lear 31 and a Lear 35.....all of them are a blast to fly. Where did you go in the "Slowtation" (old Lear pilot joke)?

I absolutely love my job! The takeoffs can be awesome, especially if we don't have full fuel and or pax and we can stop on a dime if we want....most jets have GREAT brakes and our new 45 has very expensive carbon fiber brakes that will throw you through the windshield if we do a max braking landing. ;)

We did a short flight from Des Moines, IA to Appleton, WI. Something like 55 minutes or so. Beats 6 - 7 hours driving or nearly that for flying commercial.

Our other jet is a smaller Citation (I think a 7 seater). I've been on it numerous times.

Nothing like pulling up to our private hanger and saying "let's go" (no security hassles!). When we got done with our meetings early, we called the pilot and told him to meet us as the airport in an hour and I was back home in time for dinner. Can't do that flying commercial!

Never flown in a Citation Sovereign but have travel in some of the Air Force's finest antiquated aircraft like the C141, C130, C5, KC135, AWACS, and a thrill ride in a F-15 :D

JR,
How about a C-124 ("Old Shakey"), ever fly in one of those? I went to Nam and back in one converted to carry patients in the early 60s.

My son and I may be in this one later this week-------------if we can get a cowl flap problem fixed!!!

I've flown on Citations a few times, including a Citation X, never flown on a Sovereign. Lears are fun when empty. We fly big iron, Challengers and Global Express. Gotta have room to stretch your legs.

Tom,
Unfortunately no but I did fly from Travis to Somalia in a C141 filled with PAX in double row jump seats.
Back in 1991-2 Travis AFB had 1 flying C124 but it was retired to the museum there with a full parade and Gen. Folgeman did the presentation.

I've flown lots of different planes; jet, turbine and piston (yes, even the big old round engines), and there is simply no substitute for POWER! If it won't go fast enough, add more HP or Thrust and go faster! If you ever want to feel like your hair is on fire, fly a high speed jet low level through mountains, gives you a whole different perspective on YEE HAW!!

Global Express, Challenger 604, Learhet models 31a, 40, 45 & 60. A real treat if you ever get the chance.
