I will add my support for the Crane covers as well. Expensive, but they are the only correct ones for the 69's Alan. They have the little temp sending wire clip on the driver's side and all the dripper welds show through like the originals.

I did not go the Crane covers on my 69 during the build, I just could not see spending the $$$ at the time so I used the ones from another place and I also made my own temp sensor wire clip for the valve cover and worked out great, and very hard to even tell when the wire is in place. Even the ones that I made look like they are spot welded on the valve cover.

That's good info and I've confirmed that Modern sells US made repro valve covers significantly cheaper (>20%) than Crane does direct. I'm not sure how that is, but are you sure that Modern sells Crane's products?
Thanks!
You can call Modern and ask who the supplier is. I purchased mine quite a few years ago and they confirmed Crane as the supplier then. I don't believe anyone else repops them like this. I did get one that had a bent temp sending clip and they gladly (Modern) exchanged it for another.

Nice covers but I wonder how nice the original factory chrome was when they were new?
Originals were flash chrome and about as nice at the repops you get else where.

i have 2 sets of the originals. i'm wondering also on the price of rechrome. bill

Rechroming the valve covers is expensive. What is worse is that the metal is thin and if they have any rust, you have to grind the metal to get it smooth, leaving very little.

I had a set rechromed years ago and was very disappointed. I lost the detail of the spot welds for the drippers and the grind marks left were unacceptable.

Crane's makes the valve coves the way GM should have. I have GM originals on my 69 SS and the chrome is fair, but cranes captures all the detail with a nice chrome job.

I bought a set frOm Ground Up. Prob is on the pass side there are 2 holes: one for filler cap and for elbow to connect hose to bottom of open element. Driver side also has 2 holes. 1 for pcv grommet and valve and has Milodon push in breather with a K&N element breather in it. Seems like every set I've seen has only one hole in that side. Do I need to simply plug the second hole, leave the breather or buy another set? Is mine correct?
Thanks

FWIW I confirmed with Classic Muscle from Modern Chevrolet that the ones they sell are from Crane Corvette. For whatever reason, they sell them cheaper than Crane. I guess Crane doesn't care to sell to individuals and leaves their resellers some markup.

Santa is bringing mine. ;)

This is what they should look like for a 1969 396

from the Crane website.
