My 66 has black door lock knobs to match the black interior.

Original equipment was color coded to the interior color. My 66 Elky has goldish-tan to mate with the gold of the fawn interior. Chrome would be a repo part. I believe.

Color coded as far as I know.
I have the chrome 67 style lock knobs in my 66. I just like them better.

Thanks. I need a ferrule as one cracked and broke. So when looking for the ferules I noticed that they had both chrome and color coded knobs. I thought they should be color coded; but didn't know for sure.

Hate to pay shipping on a $.079 part, hopefully I can find one in the junk yard.

The ferules are clear plastic...makes them look a bit like the color of the painted door sill underneath.

Doing a little research the oldest catalog I found from Feb of 71 list 7583789 as chrome and for a 65-66 Caprice. It also list 7591126 as black and for a 66 chevelle (Sprt Cpe and El Camino).

Interested that it lists 7649291 green for 65 be lair, Impala (exc SS), 66 Chevelle (Sprt Cpe and Conv)and 65-66 Impala.

Also 7591129 blue for 66 Chevelle (exc. S.S.)

And 7591132 turquoise for 66 Chevelle and 66 belair.

And 7591132 red for a 66 chevelle.

All that I can make of this is depending upon interior color you may have got a color coordinated knob or a chrome knob, such as in the case of a blue.

I wonder if one might find some old colored photos for 66 chevelle SS where you can make out weather the knob is colored or chrome.

Len, I might add that on Dale's photo of a black interior with black exterior, that GM decal is not correct for 66, so maybe that knob has been changed.
