Received GM tach with 4 wires,red,white,black and green.How do I hook-up to my 70 SS Chevelle and where should I placed it..Just to get it to work can i hookit up to the coil? THANKS

Typically,
Red goes to "ignition" circuit,
Black goes to "ground"
Green goes to the negative side of the coil
White goes to the dash light circuit...


No instructions? Can you take off the rear cover, and see where the wires go? Often they will have some indication ("IGN" etc)...

As for placement, thats entirely up to you... Steering column? top of dash? The ideal place is somewhere where its easily visible at a glance (don't want to take your eyes off the road), which is why race cars have it right in front, often on top of the dash... But for a street car, you might not want it that obtrusive... Steering column, in front of the speedo is pretty common... But the 70 Chevelle column might rotate with the shifter, so keep that in mind...
