Yeah, but the LSX can go to just over 500 cubes in tall deck form. Shallow valve angles, yada yada sure makes for some serious hp from not that big of an engine.
I'll still take my big block.

All of the aluminum LSX series of engines have had the six bolt mains. I hope the new one is available with quality bolts instead of the throw aways they have now. The first version of the new iron block has a 9.24 deck height block with the 9.7 deck coming out sometime soon. Isn't it amazing how all these American companies rediscover "performance" when they get in financial trouble? This new block will be quite a step in the right direction though, along with the inexpensive heads to match. A 454" small block should be neet.

I went from a Dart tall deck 427" SBC to my LS1 engine, having gone completely through both motors I know them very well.

The "rocket" SBC block has raised cam 9.3 deck and spread pan rails...The LS1 block also has raised cam, a close 9.24 deck, and has spread pan rails. I found this to be pretty interesting, a real step in the right direction.

I cannot see many people buying the LSX block unless you are just wanting to be the biggest on the block or have a ton of cash laying around. The standard LS1 or 2 block will make a safe 388" motor, will hold 1000 hp with ease, and you can buy them all over for just about nothing(Less then $500). The LSX block is what...about $6k just for the block??

That is crazy!!!

The only ad I've seen was a bit less than 2 grand for the LSX. I agree, it'll be for the same type builder that go with conventional SBC Dart, etc. blocks, the smaller stuff will probably handle most of the street action.

The only ones I've seen were cast iron and I hadn't heard about any aluminum models yet...the one I saw was in a GMPP catalog a couple of months ago.
