Sounds like the one I bought a few years ago. It was cheap as well. Certainly full of lots of stuff, but there is no easy navigation or search facility on the one I've got. This appears to be the same. Rather useless and time consuming to be honest. What if the part information you want is on page 2,456 - It will take forever to find it.

I could be wrong, but I think there is another type out there with a search facility or something like HTML links similar to Internet Explorer.

yep, agree.....I have the same style CD. Many pages of data...with NO way to cross reference or look up a part. You literally have to go through each section. You would think they would group all parts by section.... like put all drive line or brake parts in one section...nope.

I even went to the local chevy dealer and looked at the parts manuals they keep under the counter...... guess what, the CD and the manuals are the same.
So the CD is a copy of the actual parts manual......!!!
The parts guy and I looked for a couple of parts...no luck, unless you want to look page-by-page.

Hopefully, someone on here can let us know a better way to look up older GM parts...... take care!

Ok, thanks. Guess I'll pass on that then. You would think there would be something better out there by now. Seems like someone that knows something about programming/database would be able to re-do the cd properly

Wishful thinking I guess

I have one that covers all Chevy models from 62 - 75. It is indexed and searchable. In the front section are all the RPO option codes, VIN info and lots of other good stuff. The illustrations are in a seperate section. There is also a section that catalogs the GM performance parts available at the time.
I find it handy to see what parts fit across the model lines. It helps when searching for used parts.

Detroit Iron - http://www.detroitironis.com/ - has been around for quite a while with, in this case, a Chevrolet parts book. It isn't searchable and uses Paperviewer instead of PDF but at least it's broken down into GM groups. You just have to know what GM calls parts and what group (0.000 - 15.000) they are in. I think they are available here on the TC Store as well. Hope this link works.

I have 3 years, 66, 67 and 69, and all have the same parts book - dated 1972, same as my paper copy - and listed as CHEVROLET PARTS 1964. Depending on the year you order for there are other manuals on the CD as well but they're pretty much useless. The 67 year is what I use most of the time and it has 1967 CHASSIS (mainly lubrication points), 1967 OVERHAUL (air conditioning compressor), and 1967 FISHER BODY SERVICE manual.

I'm not sure it's truly 'legal' since it's probably photocopied from a paper book that is copyrighted. I would assume Detroit Iron has permission to do just that since all the 'pages' in it are scanned (and not searchable)but they've had them out for quite a long time. Problem with the searchability is it's probably scanned images (then combined into a PDF format) and you can't search a scanned image for text. One would have to manually type in all the data (as text) then save that as a PDF file.

Another matter is what is in the Chevrolet parts book are quite often service replacement parts and may not be the same part number as the original. That and parts are superceded all the time changing the serviceable part number. All in all, they seem to be pretty good - again, if you know what GM calls things. :D

Yeah, I have that disc... Actually I have the Chevy 1975-back, the Corvette one, and the Pontiac one. There's an index page in the very beginning as well as in each section to help, plus if you can find a picture page, it will give you the group number to look in.

I agree, knowing GM's catalog system has plenty of benefits since it can go waaaay faster. Even looking in the paper books can take a lot of time when you DO know what you need.
