That's my car in the vid. Very rare to hear that someone actually likes the mud flaps! Car used to have them on front as well, like in my profile pic. Now that the paint has its share of stone chips, I just run the rear ones mainly for when I go to the track. Keeps all that rubber off the paint.

I appreciate the fact that they prevent rock chips, scratches, etc., but sorry I have to be honest, I don't like the look. I'd rather have the chips and scratches than KY air brakes. Otherwise, very nice car. At the recent Cleveland NOCC show, there was a very nicely restored '69 Chevelle SS that was advertised as the most optioned '69 Chevelle in existence. After looking at the options I believe it. Nothing was left out. Even a bunch of dealer installed items were there including mud flaps. I'd have surely left those off if it were mine.

No offense taken. I prefer without as well. I don't think the rear ones are quite as bad as the front ones were. I have thought about making a "clip-on" set to throw on for track days or long trips. Haven't got past the thinking stage though.

much easier to just take some painters tape along and tape up the rear quarters at the track and do away with the mud flaps. painters tape work well comes off easy afterwards
but it looks worse than mud flaps while it's on there...

I don't see anything wrong about trying to prevent rock chips. I can't afford a $9000 paint job, so just trying to keep mine looking nice as long as I can.

My car is far from a trailer queen. It gets driven pretty hard.

Couple years ago my youngest son and I were at a car show. Looked at a 70-72 Chevelle that had the lower rear quarters behind the rear wheel well that looked as if it had been either Rhino lined or Line-X'd. Had a "pebble" finish surface, not really noticeable until looked close. Had even been color matched to the body color paint. Thought that is was a pretty cool idea. Had some pretty wide beefy tires on the rear, I'm sure they threw up some gravel and such when hammered down.

GM put something like that one some cars in the 80's- they called it "rock guard" or something similar to that... my 84 Regal has it and it's a really common thing to see on GN's.

There's a commercial on tv about a new spray on clear coating that prevents rock chips. The comercial shows a meteor that becomes a pebble and the coating prevents the damage.I think its mcguires or mothers.Maybe that would work to keep it chip-free.I've never used it so I'm not recommending it i'm just passing it on.
