Hey everyone! I've been away from the forums for about a year(!) but I have a valid excuse... I've been busy getting the Chevelle up and going! I took it to my first event last weekend, the Driveautox at Grissom in Peru, IN.

Overall the car did awesome! I didn't win and I wasn't the fastest by any stretch, but I did get to push the car, play with some shock adjustments, and have a blast! I think as I learn the car we will get faster and better.

Here are some videos and pics from the weekend.

And here are a couple of interior shots now that it's done...

Awesome job. How about a debrief on how the car feels? Power, brakes, handling. What works great, and what perhaps could be changed or tweaked?
Let's see... There's plenty of power but after driving it, I probably should have went with a 3.70 rear gear instead of 3.50. Not a big deal though. Brakes work good but should improve as the pads bed in and I get the front/rear bias and balance bar dialed in. I'm impressed with how it handles, especially since the alignment is very mild. It doesn't push in the turns unless I come in way too hot. There's really no oversteer unless I'm on the throttle too hard.

The only issue I had were some leaking adapter fittings on the rack. New fittings should be here Friday. Hopefully that will be the end of that!

The only real changes will be the seats, but I'm waiting for one more and the mounting brackets to arrive. Other than that, I have some things that still need to be done such as hood hinges, possibly a rear diffuser, and I want to put a small extension on the rear spoiler.

why a change of seats?
When I built the chassis, I shifted the engine and trans to the passenger side, which reduced the amount of passenger seat room. Before this, the 17" seat was on the passenger side and the 15" seat was on the driver side. The 17" no longer fits so it's currently on the driver side and it's too big for me.

After a lot of searching and measuring, I ended up ordering a pair of Sabelt Titan seats. So far only one has arrived. Hopefully the other will be here soon.

More progress on my attempt at adding downforce to a brick!

For the most part, this car has always had a front spoiler with a very small splitter. Was it effective? I have no idea. However, after doing some reading and seeing what successful racers have done, I decided to improve (I hope) my aero situation.

The first step was choosing material - in this case Sande plywood from HD. It was the least expensive of the nice plywood. Then I drew a pattern and transferred it to the plywood, cut it out, etc. In an effort to reduce weight, I used a router to cut some pockets in it.

Then I fabbed a pair of splitter ramps because they add downforce without adding drag.

And because all the cool kids are doing it, I made some end plates.

Because this slab of wood will be on a car in various environments, I coated it in DIY bedliner that was left over from my C10.

The final product...

And installed...

After a quick drive I measured my ground clearance at 4". The lowest part of the car is the passenger side link for the Watts. If you look close you can see it back there by the tire.

This last one is just because it's a good pic. :)

Last weekend I brought the Chevelle to the Northeast Musclecar Challenge. This was the first road course I've had it on and it impressed me. It went where I pointed it, the power was awesome, it felt planted, and considering the brakes are standard Baer 6P with Bluestuff pads, it stopped on a dime! So overall the car did well, placed about mid pack on the road course and autox. With more seat time, it can only get better!
