been looking for a reclining, bolstered seat for my '65.i like the procar rally seat, but have read where they don't fit a bigger frame person too well(6'2" 250lb).i also like the corbeau baja rs,but it would take a little modification to do away with the headrest.both of the above mentioned seats are about $300 each plus shipping.then ad the cast of having them upholstered, and you end up in the neighborhood $1000 or better for the front 2 buckets.i know alot of people probally have that much invested in their stock seats, and it is not unreal.the price of the seats, new buns, covers, and labor(or do it themselves).
so i have been trying to figure out what later model seat might be close to the same size as my factory '65 buckets.the biggest problem i found myself, was finding something that isn't too tall,or too narrow, and that is manual operating.also finding seats that DO NOT have a nylon webbing for the suspension in them.do not want to fool with power seats.
so friday night i took measurements of the stock '65 seats.saturday morning,me and a buddy rode to Pull-A-Part in Louisville.UNREAL! parking lot looked like wal-mart!anyway,after walking thru all of the domestics, figured we might as well look thru the imports.BINGO!
i know, import.but this is what i found.blue ones are from a corolla, and the tan ones are from a camry.and the nice part is that bucket seats are $22.96 each at Pull-A-Part.no joke.bought all 4 seat for $100.55,and it cost $1 to get in.pretty cool place, not many parts newer than 2000.
what do ya'll think about these.the seat in the car has the toyota tracks sitting on the factory tracks, and is a little tall.i'm going to get some square tubing tommorrow, and build a set of stands that are a little shorter.plus there is no need for double sliders.of course the seat in the middle is the '65 seat.thanks
