I have a 72 Chevelle 307 with rebuilt engine, new engine harness, new voltage regulator and a chrome alternator bought on ebay - may have been used, but looks new.

The generator light remains on when the car is running and according to my tester, the battery isn't charging. Can someone offer a likely cause for this? Is there an easy way to tell if the alternator is defective?

Thank you!

Let's see, NEW harness, NEW regulator, USED alternator. My guess would be alternator, take it to your local auto parts place and have them check it out. It's someplace to start, then look at wiring, connections.
