Well here is the deal. My current AFR 195's are straight plug and my headers are Hedman 65003's. These are not suppoosed to work with straight plug heads. So we dimpled them are there is still barley any clearence and burn plug boots. Now a buddy of my wants to buy my heads for a grand. So I was going to step up to the AFR Eliminator 195's and get the angle plug option. My current cam is a XS274S solid flat. It specs 274/280 with 236/242 and 501/510 lift. But I have 1.6's so its like 534/544. Is this to small for these heads?? I also have new in the box a Comp 294S. It specs 294/294 with 248/248 at .050 with 525 lift or 560 lift with 1.6's. This to me seems like a btter match but would like your opinions. Also considered switching to a Vic Jr at the same time. Comments....

Old set up..

AFR 195's 68cc straight
Comp XS274 solid
RPM air gap

New

AFR Eliminator 195's 65cc angled
Comp 294S solid
Victor Jr

I believe your cam choice boils down to personal preference. If you liked the power band of the smaller cam, then I would leave it be. The new heads will give the same power band, just more of it. I would look at each lifter to see if there are any issues with abnormal wear before I would decide to change cams. If everything is wearing OK, I would just switch heads. Less work, less variables to contend with.

If you are looking for the higher power band that the new heads will allow, then go with the larger cam. With AFR 195"s, it's hard to make a mistake in any direction.

Man...I'd sure go with a 210 head if you have the choice. The cubes will want the additional flow. Match it with a healthier cam and it'll be a killer.

I did a ton of research on my combo, and it sure paid off for me. I run the bigger heads (215 cnc) on a smaller engine (383) and it makes power all over the place with a bigger cam (solid roller though).

Check it out here:

PS- this is actually my engine, not one "like" it. You'll see I also did a 355 with the same basic combo, and it still made crazy power (515hp.)

If I could have, I'd have loved to have put it all inside a bigger 408 like yours. I'm sure the additional cubes would have delivered even better results...

PS- Keep that Air Gap...it's a good piece.

definatly use the 294s , it will blow the tires off at any rpm !!! also use the victor manifold ,it will still bow the tires off at any rpm.. I agree with using the 210 heads ... you can always step up later if you get greedy.

Step up the cam for sure . Comp cams rate their cams for 350's . I think that cam is rated for 2500-6500 in a 406 it would be like 2000-6000. If that your rpm range go for it .

Between those two cams, use the smaller one.
I would go with the new 195 heads.

With a 3.55 gear, you`ll need to gather up as much low-mid range torque as possible.

The dual plane will help, no need to buy another manifold that will only slow you down.
