If it's that '68 chevelle maybe a 225-70-15 or a 215-70-15 for a shorter tire on the front and a 275-60-15 on the rear.
I like the 15x7 or 8" wide wheels if you do not have clearance issues.

Some tire patterns are just noisy. A hard tire is a noisy tire as is a tire with low tread or one that is cupping a bit.
Weak shocks or a tire wheel that is too heavy for the shock will cause cupping and you will get a light roar from that cupped tire.

I stuck new shocks on a Ford Van when I built the van and installed very heavy 33x12.5x15 tires on it.
I ended up installing a second shock as some old Fords had a spot for a second shock up front.
Much better control of that heavy tire wheel combo.

Something to think about.
I know some of those 18" rims are very heavy.

I don't care for low profile tires myself, when I got our 09 Ram new it had the IIRC 265/75r17" changed to 305/45r22" and it looked good but the ride was rough, after the 305's wore down to in my mind time to get these the Heck off of here I replaced them with 285/50r22" and now it rides & handles WAY better, on my Malibu I have 245/45r17" on an 8" AR TTII with 4.5" BS on the front and a little less aspect ratio than I really like but got them for a great deal from another member, rears are 255/50r17" on a 9.5" AR TTII 5.5" BS (same member & set) and they ride fine IMHO but I need to do some suspension work since I put HD convt. springs in the rear and I need to loosen up my traction bars that are touching the frame just sitting still, another whole problem in itself though, when my Gmother bought a new 1969 Cougar Eliminator my Gfather replaced the Wide Oval tires to a narrower tire with more sidewall, he said you could feel every bump in the road with those wide tires and a short sidewall doesn't have any give to help the shocks or something like that about the sidewall & shocks but I do remember him saying about the wide tires and feeling every bump, funny how you can remember things from over 50 yrs. ago but I can't remember a few things from last week LOL, I also put new Monroe gas shocks on the Chevelle

Am I Too American, maybe! I try to buy products that are made by American companies as much as I can to keep the profits in the US. A retired UAW neighbor was telling me that a lot of foreign owned companies in the US are not as generous or safe for the workers as US companies. Try or not who knows. It is getting harder and harder to buy US products. I have never owned a foreign company car. All 65 cars I have owned, 63 GM, 2 Fords and 1 Dodge before being bought out by Fiat. My cars ride on Goodyear and BFG RWL tires. JMO

I have my 69 el Caminos suspension all updated, it handles and rides so nicely, The handling is in the suspension, the feel or personality is in the steering box, never cheap out on the steering box. I like the Lee 14:1 set up for 30 pounds.
I am using First generation 15 X 7 with 4.25" back space Ralley wheels. With Cooper Cobra 225/70R15 tires..
I plan on adding Third generation spoked Rally wheels, or go back to Wheel Vintiques Series 64 chrome reverse ...
