This upgrade does not require addition current draw, to the tune of buying a higher current alternator. I wouldn't go putting it on a 30 year old stock alternator though.
Stuff like an aftermarket radio and Amp or electric fans will require suffiecent current draw.
honestly, the dakota dashes are mostly LED comprised and would draw less current than the common 7 or 8 condescent lamps.

if i have mechanical old style gauges, what would i have to do to use one of those dakota gauge packs?

Some of the electric gauges use blue as their display color. This is fine unless you like the blueblocker sunglasses...

This is Dakotas Universal 6 guage kit installed in a modified sweep dash bezel. I did it myself and am very happy with the results.
