Carburetor Question-Again

915 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  doc j
1971 Chevelle 350.
The car has plenty of gas in the tank (a little under full), the choke is fully opened (manually manipulated), fuel filter is on (clear bulb and you can see the gas going to the carburetor).
1. While "running" the car continues to cut off/stall out.
2. The car will restart but you must continue to press the gas pedal or it will stall out again.
3. After sitting and being towed home 2 1/2 hours later, she started up again and ran for about 10 secs. before stalling out again.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Get it running, work the throttle by hand, press down on the accelerator pump arm to see if that keeps it running. If it does, you need more fuel or there's a blockage in the idle circuit. Either take it apart and clean the passages or readjust your idle mix screws. You can also cover the two idle air bleeds to add more fuel to see if it stays running for a quick check.
