"rebuilt carb" is first suspect. Float level, fuel PSI too high, etc. Holley? Ensure you set the floats when its HOT.

Holley 750 VA rebuilt 2x, adjusted float when hot. The Holley kit for that carb was used. The Accel distributer, complete is brand new. Timing set at 12 degrees advance. Seems to idle fine but down the road is terrible, still has power but boggs a bit and stumbles. Only drove it a mile or less. Bumped to 16 with no difference.

How much vacuum are you pulling at idle and what # power valve is in your carb?

If it had a backfire through the carb PV could be blown.

Check #8, does have vac advance.
????? Does the VA mean vacuum advance ? You are using it with the carb number and that is confusing. If you do have vacuum advance where is the hose connected to ? Straight manifold vacuum or ported vacuum ? What does the timing go up to when you connect the vacuum advance ?

The same carb has been on the car for 10 years and attached the same way the vacuum hose is connected the the right side of the carb the same as my other 5 cars. I have not checked the timing with the vacuum advanced attached. I have monkeyed with different settings and it seem to like 12 the best. It is somewhat difficult to determine what is best as the car has a pretty radical cam. I replaced the distributer as the original one looked terrible and was thinking it was causing the issues and it has been a few years since the carb was rebuilt. Replaced the plugs and wires and fuel filter as the car has not be touched in a few years. After all this, the car runs terrible and extremely rich and fowls the plugs just idling for 10 minutes. Cleaned them drove the car up the street coughing and bogging down, but has the power when I got on it. Checked the plugs black carbon again. My 2 mechanic friends both have different opinions on the issue, 1 on the distributer and timing, the other thinks it has 2 too tight valves as the manifold pressure bounces all over the place. The carb guy says it is OK. May be time for the crusher!!!!
