I'm looking for a good carb for my '66. I'm building a BB 427 with 10.5 cr, with AFR 265 cnc heads, lunati ft 402a3 solid cam, Performer RPM intake that I will mill divider down (how far to mill down?) I was thinking Holley 870 SA but I am a complete newbie in the carb area.

The car will be a daily driver, but I would rather lose a little in the gas usage/cost to purchase area than lose some performance during the stop light to stop light thashings. That being said, track performance is not a main concern, or at least I think so.

Would the 1000 demom work on the same engine with 12.5 c/r with a Victor Jr O? I think it is the same as a holley 850DP Not?

The approx. number in earlier post above was about 30-bucks high, so even better.

Found a recent invoice for a QF HR-780 = 386.00 (+ 16.42 shipping).

Very reliable full-featured carb, especially for the coin, that works well & tunes easy right out of the box.

There is a considerable price difference between the two, is it worth it to go with the 950?

I was just reading a thread on the 950 and it said it is a 750 main body on a 850 base. Is this true as I have a 850 for parts. I could buy the 750 and mount it on my 850 base.

I'm not sure how easy it will be to get a carb to work correctly with the parts you have. But to answer your questions, yes its basicly a 750 body with an 850 base plate. Pro Systems built one for me a few years back and it flowed 824 cfm. I like the 950HP on a mid-sized BBC because they provide very crisp throttle response with enough flow on the top end to make decent HP.

The 950HP Holley or 950HP Prosys are AWESOME carbs and VERY responsive. Ran several of them and I LOVE them.

And yes, the 950HP's flow around 830cfm - will be more than enough for your ride.
