Which carb would be best for this application: sbc 355 w/Vortec heads, Comp Magnum 280H cam, .480/.480 w/230 dur @ 050, 1 5/8 headers, Air Gap intake, 2400 stall and full 2.5" exhaust. The car is a 71 Malibu and will be mostly street driven with an occasional burst. I had this motor in a 78 Malibu which I was running a Holley 650 dp with a ProForm main body in it. It was used mostly as a weekend drag car with very little street use. The engine may have 100 miles on it now.
These are my choices:
1 - existing Holley 650 dp and Air Gap intake
2 - Get new 600 Holley vac sec and Air Gap intake
3 - completely change my history with Holley and go to a Quadrajet with a regular Performer intake.

Your thoughts please.......Thank You

"Leave the 650 dp on it"

theres rarely any serious gains Ive ever seen to swapping carbs from what you currently have on a combo like yours, it should do just fine if correctly tunned, altho you might want to try a few differant carb spacers under the carb, that at times helps marginally, Id try a 2" tall, four hole design personally IF you have the hood clearance, at $32 your not gambling much and it works at times
