I've run another question regarding my production data project.
The 1970 Chevrolet option totals report apparently only counts
U.S. built cars. The popular figure quoted for the number of '70
LS6 cars is 4,475. This figure, however, comes from the option
totals report, so it is a U.S. total. I'm wondering if any additional
LS6 cars (or any big-block cars, for that matter) were built in
Canada in '70 ?

There were 25,938 2-door V8 Malibus built in Canada in '70.
Did any of these have an SS package, or a big-block ?

If anyone has a *documented* '70 big-block car built in Canada,
that was originally sold in the U.S., please let me know !!

PS: The jury is still out on weather you could get Cowl Induction
in '71 or '72 on anything besides the 454. Any info is appreciated !

I'm not sure about '70 but in '69 it appears that all the L78 and COPO Chevelles that came into Ontario were built in Baltimore even thought SS Chevelles were built in Oshawa. 1970 may have been the same. I don't know about the rest of Canada.

Take this from where it is coming from, but from year to year production of certain models could shift to a plant and leave the following year. In '70, Oshawa built GTOs (the only year) and even built 1 455-powered (L75) Judge. I'm not sure about Chevelles, but as I understand Keith's observations are correct. Reguarding the cowl-induction on anything other than the 454, isn't there somebody out there that has (had) a '71 Concours wagon with a 402/4-spd & cowl induction? I've also heard of other oddballs like a supposedly LEGIT '70 Malibu L65/3-spd with D88 stripes & full guages. Before CAFE, NHTSA & other non car influences (dictators) you could actually have it your way.

R. Daunais, is your Chevelle a LS5 or a LS6. The pamphlet that I received from GM Canada does not show any LS6 info. The only 454 is the LS5. Do you have the Z15 option on your cowl tag? How many were produced for sale in the USA with the 454 option?
Thank you!!

The info packs that are available from GM
(US or Canada) contain reprints of original
Chevy charts, graphs, etc.
For some reason, it seams that the solid
lifter big-blocks (L78 and LS6) are not
listed in the Power Team combination
charts. But, that doesn't mean they
weren't available.

RDaunais, if you have the GM of Canada
info pack for your car, I'd really like to
know how many Canadian-built '70 LS5
coupes were sold in the U.S.

I know another person with a '70 SS-396
(L34) (Canadian-built) and their info pack
states that there were 3,306 '70 L34
coupes built in Canada and sold in the
U.S.

I'm hoping to find out the numbers for the
other big blocks (L78, L89, LS3, LS5, LS6)

We have the info pack on our '69 L78 300 Deluxe SS396. This is model 13437. The info sheet states that there were 2673 of this model produced for sale in Canada. This means that 2673 300 Deluxe hardtops were built for sale in Canada regardless of origin. It doesn't break down by engine or options such as Z25 SS396.
