Ok so I've got a project that I just started. It's a 67 Chevelle and I'm trying to keep it on a very low budget and get the most bang for my buck. I just got a steal on a wrecked parts truck and it has a really smooth running engine. It's an 01 5.3 L 285hp 325 ft/lb vortec engine with the automatic transmission w/overdrive. I'm a rookie and this is my first project that I'm actually going to build. I want to stuff this motor and tranny combo into my chevelle but have no clue what all I need to do, modify and if it will even work. Has anyone put a 5.3 into their chevelle with success? I'm doing the research right now but plan on having it ready for the engine by end of summer.

The LS engine swap is becoming pretty common. The truck LS engines are becoming plentiful. Mounts, headers and computer systems are available now from what I understand. We bought a 2005 Corvette with LS2 power and a six speed and have put over 13K miles on it over the last year. I would just love to have an LS2 or LS3 six speed in a Chevelle. The Corvette is pretty nice but.......I still like the old Chevelles The new engines make pretty impressive power, have bottom end torque like the old big block cars and give 30+ mpg (Imperial). Not too many of the old musclecars from the sixties, in stock form, would win a quarter mile race with one. There is a very clean local '68 Beaumont for sale and it has me thinking. These Corvettes are so full of very expensive stuff that if anything goes wrong, the bank account could take a beating. A simple old Chevelle would do us just fine.

it bolts to the existing transmission.. mount adapters are easy to make... one of the many different variations of oil pans that GM has used over the years will clear everything... stock exhaust manifolds might even fit...

so getting it in is easy- getting it running depends on your skill with fuel systems and engine management systems..
