Just wondering if I can drill my own steam holes in a pair of camel hump heads I want to slap on my 400 sbc? My machine shop wants $50 per head to do this. Has anyone done it and how did it work and how do you decide where to drill them? Thanks.

Yes you can do it.

It is beyond easy. So easy, even I can do it. And I don't even measure up to the usual standard of "idiot".... I'm more of a moron or an imbecile.

Use a 400 head gasket as a template. Mark the holes. Center-punch them. Drill with about a 3/16" bit. Angle the ones on the intake side over toward the exhaust a little, as they sometimes are right under the thickened place around the head bolt.
