I'm doing a cam swap for a guy in a 74 chevy pu 2wd that was over cammed for the application. What i'm working with is your basic 8.5:1 70's vintage 350. Poor flowing smog heads, 991 castings to be exact. Edelbrock perf intake, msd ignition, and headers. There is a 2" open plenum carb spacer due to him having a bird catcher thru the hood. The truck has a TH350 with a stock converter and 3.08 gears. He says he has a 4.10 rearend he wants to put in and is going to use a 31" tall tire. All this guy really cares about is being able to have good throttle response and being able to burn the tires around town. Obviously leaning towards a cam for good low and mid range TQ. Any suggestions?

This is begging for a small Lunati Voodoo. They've changed the numbering system on these cams for some reason, and I don't know the new numbers off the top of my head, but the old numbers are still published. You want the new equivalent to the 60100 or 60101.

My cam grinder made me a [email protected] .050" .454" lift it is the old comp 268H
he put it on a 106 LS my engine is 10.4 compression 350 with 1.84-1.50 valves pulls really good for an old truck .
How well does she pull?..Beat my buddies 2010 mustang gt he ordered it with 5 speed and 3.73 gears.
My truck had Th350 and 2.75 rear gears when we raced.

He did the same grind in a 4x4 with a stock 350..that owner just raves about the low speed TQ.

I get 14 mpg with that on a 106. I have ran that cam in a nova on a 110LS and got 18-18.5 most of the time 20.5 was best ever MPG.
3.08 gears and th350

I put my order in for the same exact grind on a 112..for comparison i will soon see what it does.
Playing the MPG game.

Those smaller iskys on a 108 would be really nice also.

I'm running a Melling 22203 in a 355 with flat tops and 041x heads that I figured works out to about 9.6:1 CR. It's basically the same as the Summit K1103 and the 24502476 cam Chevy put in the 350HO crate motor, as well as Pace and others. It's been around a long time, copied by everybody, and I think it actually started out as a Chevy marine grind, which usually means torque. Melling lists it as the biggest cam they recommend for a stock converter. You can literally find the same grind in the Crane, Sealed Power, Lunati and other books. But if everybody has copied it that must be because it works. It will light 'em up, and pulls hard from just over 1000 rpm all the way to where I care to drive it on the street. $99 for cam and lifters from Summit is hard to beat.

sam, i ran the cam one step under that 2 times once in an olds 350 once in a 350 chevy
that was 204-214 @.050 on a 112 LS
Hated it both times.. killed the low speed TQ vs a stock cam advanced 4 degrees.
I did gain 500 rpm on the top...not a good one.. so do not go there..the one in the 350chevy was the edelbrock performer cam.
I did run the 214-224 on a 112LS a couple times but higher compression and ported heads.

You need i would think a 110LS or tighter

Strokd66 are you happy now with a basket full of suggestions.
