Posted this question earlier in heating and cooling but no response. Does anyone know if it's possible to lube the heating and cooling cables on my '67?? They have a plastic jacket so you can't simply spray them and they have loops on both ends so you can't remove the core (I think). Also, does anyone know what moving the heat and cold control is actually doing as I don't see a water control valve unless it's inside the heater box. Thanks!!

You could try and use a motorcycle cable luber. It's a cheap little tool sold at the counter of most motorcycle shops that clamps on the end of the housing and seals on the cable. Then you use the little red tube that comes with a WD-40 can to spray in the tool and it blows out the other end of the cable. I dunno about the control valve but I'd guess it's in the heater box.

It is difficult at best to "grease" the cable. I ended up taking the cables off the car and hanging them by the ends. I put heavy oil on one end and reoiled each day until the oil came out the other end. It took about a week for the oil to make it through the other end. The hotter the day, the easier the oil flows.
