All this talk of badass 467s lately has me wanting one. What are your thoughts about this 454? 4 bolt block. Possibly 290 heads? Can’t tell for sure. Too far gone? He’s asking 400 for short block and heads.

If people are going to save this stuff and try to get money out of it, they need to learn how in the hell to properly store it.
Agreed. Looks rough.

$300 I think I'd offer $200, what the heck
I just might. I have a feeling he won’t go for it but I don’t think I’m willing to spend more for some lawn art.

Yeah everyone has some parts laying around and asking an arm and a leg for and it turns out to be seized or rotted junk.
If they just put it in a shed or the basement a garage...worth a lot more....
Yellow block was that a marine block for a boat? I know you said truck... but?

Waiting on casting numbers. From the pictures of you zoom in, the heads say “pass” on them. And i (think) I can see “290” on the runner. How can you tell if it’s a forged crank? Would a marine block be better? What casting numbers should I be looking for on the block?

Not sure if a marine block would be better on not... But they would have as much run time as a truck or car engine however they may have more corrosion in the heads due to sea water and not being flushed out well. But you can find them...

Now I’m genuinely curious as to what this is. It has domed pistons and a 4 bolt. I just asked the guy to send the block casting numbers as well. He says it’s at work and he’ll send it when he’s there next. Maybe this guy isn’t emotionally attached and will let me take it for cheap.

a original ls6 would be a 512 Block, not sure on the over the counter motors. machine shops used to store old cores out back in the weather and say the blocs were seasoned. a hot tank, fresh bore, alignhone and the block would look brand new. can anyone tell if the rod bolts are the larger bolts? jim

Would the larger rod bolts be 7/16?

The heads probably aren't worth salvaging but the block and rotating assy. might be
Heads not worth it because of the heads themselves or they’re too far gone?

290 heads were ok perf. heads but by the time you pay for machine work they might cost you half what a good set of alum. would cost, I had $1,100 in my "063" heads, new Brodix RR heads with CNC chambers Comp Cams springs, locks, guides were around $2,300 or so, curious if the blocks been bored, if you get it use a few cans of Kroil or PB Blaster then thin motor oil to see if you can get parts moving, before putting any $ in it I'd get it checked for cracks, and be sure to look for cracks when you go look at it, looks to be missing 4 rods so I'd look in those holes for any damage

That’s a good point about the heads. I’d probably have them sent out to be worked over so that would definitely increase the total cost. If I end up going out there I’ll mic the bores and see what they are. Seems like such a crap shoot buying blocks and heads nowadays.

My buddies dad offered to sell me an over the counter l88 for 3k about 15 years ago. Of course I said no like an idiot. He’s since sold his stock pile of big block parts. Really nice stuff too.

In the late 80's I let my 73 elky powered by a 70 vette LS5 467 pushing 500+ hp go for a Harley engine/trans rebuild balance bill under $1,000, gave the shop owner the elky to pay the bill, couldn't sell the elky, wish I'd of at least kept that engine, Oh well
