I found the buildsheet in our 70 chevelle driver bucket seat behind the plastic and need help Identifying if its the correct buildsheet for the car. Should the VIN match somewhere on the buildsheet? Or how do I tell if its correct?

There should be a stamped 6-digit number in the upper right corner of the build sheet. This should match the last 6 digits of your VIN plate. Can you post a readable photo of the sheet?

Wow this is crazy. It does not match my car. It is 1 digit off. Mine is 114037 and this buildsheet is 114077. The entire VIN on this buildsheet is 136370L114077 and It says L78 V8 396 HI PER. Both my car and this buildsheet car were built in the Van Nuys, CA Plant. Do you suppose somebody switched the seats at some point? Or is it possible the dealer messed up and stuck the wrong buildsheet in my car? So Anybody with an 1970 SS396 L78 Built in This plant check your VIN.

The dealer had nothing to do with the build sheets. They were garbage that was left there by the assembly line workers. It's possible that someone changed the seats or they were mixed up at the factory.

Not crazy at all.I bet both cars have the same seat option.Assembly line workers just grab the type seat that's supposed to go in.We found a second build sheet in the back of my friends bucket in his LS-6 car.It was for another bucket seat SS convertible 3 numbers off the LS-6 vin#.That build sheet is in Dales Orphan paperwork, looking for it's home.:)

A friend of mine did a frame off on his 70 SS, never found the build sheet for his car. When he removed the lower part of the back seat, he found 7 build sheets for the 7 cars built ahead of his. Somebody at the plant had a hand full of build sheets, and just threw them in there to get rid of them! Made this comment in another post, got eat up by people wanting to know about the sheets, he was restoring the car so he put them back where he found them. Thomas

Matt what does your trim tag say? Could have be a bench seat car that got buckets later.

Trim Tag reads

ST 70-13637 BL 05831
TR 796 10 G PNT
(0?)9C 034339 180285

I think that is a 0 not sure the factory rivet is very close to it and hard to read
TR 796 is Metallic Dark Green Coated Fabric buckets, 10 is Classic White lower body color and G is Dark Green vinyl top.

It is the number '0' before the 9C date. It's not uncommon to have the first digit obscured by the rivet.

Hey sbc500hpchevelle. Your car was produced about 4 weeks ahead of mine. My vin is L131 with a production date of 10/23/69, 3rd week. Your car was Sept, I also found a good build sheet on the top of the gas tank on the drivers side. Workers placed the build sheet here while the frame went down the assembly line then later didn't remove it when the body was placed on top therefore leaving the build sheet behind. Workers were suppose to trash the build sheets but found it easier to stick them under and behind seats when building cars because it was easier. When time presents itself, look on top of the gas tank on california built cars. Good luck.
