I know it's not a chevelle but it's a gm.
my problem is the charging system. the battery went dead last week charged it up and i thought everthing was fine then i noticed the lights were going dim. i checked the system and was getting 11.82 volts all the wires looked fine and connected so i go to auto zone to get a new alternator and still the same problem. i went through 2 alternators same problem. i'm all out of ideas.

I would think if the alternator were charging properly, you would be getting more like 13.8 volts. Just my opinion, but be wary of AutoZone alternators as I have seen them faulty off the shelf. I would spend the extra money and buy an AC Delco new. Those AZ alternators are remanufactured and all they usually replace is whatever componenent went bad and put in cheap brushes and bearings. I had the same problem with the alt in my Velle, went through like 3 in two months. Finally bought a new AC and it has been trouble-free for the last 2 years...
