Broken piece of dipstick in oil pan

1530 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  boz53bj
Just got my 70 chevelle out for the spring. Went to check the oil and found last inch or so of the dipstick must be in the oil pan. I removed the tube from the block and it's not in the tube. I have a 350, I have been told don't worry about it from a couple of friend who are mechanics, it will lay in the bottom of the pan. Looking for any thoughts out there about this or suggests, short of pulling the oil pan. Thanks.

I've had that happen twice...both times in 383 engines.
Seems like the stroker cranks don't get along with the stock dipsticks.
Got a magnetic drain plug?
Just by pure luck, got one out that way. The other engine's broken piece was found in the bottom of the pan during a tear down/rebuild.
I wouldn't worry about it.
