While driving home yesterday I "got on it", and just happened to notice my air cleaner rise up 3/4" or so on the drivers side  Sure enough my drivers side mount had ripped apart. It's a factory 307 mount. I'm surprised how many years I've thrashed on the mount and 'now' it decides to let go. So since I'm a broke student again I don't really want to spend the money on Energy Suspension mounts, so I'm thinking about just using a couple 3/8" bolts to clamp the mount together so it can't come apart. It's the kind of mount that is just glued together, not the clamshell or 'locking' style. I don't really think it will transfer much more vibration. What do you guys think?

Well, That is a strange question but I think you may be able to make that idea work as long as you dont mind a little vibration. But instead I would (if I were you) skip a pitcher night out with the boys and spend the 25 bones for a new mount. Good luck on your education. and remember "Its not the guy with the most brains who makes it in the real world its the guy who knows the guy with the brains that makes it"

You know I was going to go out drinking "soda pop":beers: tonight with some friends, but plans changed. I might end up buying those mounts after all. I'll keep looking for the guy with the brains too;)

Just put a solid on the drivers side, I ran mine that way with the old motor. I have solids on both sides now with a poly trans mount and I can't tell that much more vibration.

I bolted both mine together AND never even took it back to the dealer after I got the Factory motor mount recall letter b/c I didn't want THEM touching my car!!

Seem's like every time I took it in, I got it back with other stuff wrong with it!! Like, my drivers side P/W jumped track so I took it in AND somehow they blew my tach/dash printed circuit out!! Go figure!!!

I told them to get me a new printed circuit for FREE and I put the sucker in myself!!

NEVER darkened their shop door again!!

Did the same thing two weeks ago on my bro-in-law's '69 Malibu. Broke the driver's side motor mount, driving the clutch fan into the shroud which then put a large hole in the radiator. :(
Solved that problem by replacing the broken mount with a solid one from Moroso. Easy fix!
Also replaced the radiator with an aluminum one from Alumitech.... ;)
