I have been contemplating buying a set of the race-rite oval ports for my 496 but was wondering about the springs that come from brodix. The solid flat tappet/ hyd roller springs are good for .600 lift and my UD288/296f10 will be slightly over .600 after lash. Would I be better off buying a bare set of heads and letting a local shop set them up or does anyone have experience with how much over .600 lift I could get away with?? I know that you are never sure until you measure, but I thought somebody might have been in the same boat as I, since that is a popular cam used on this site.
Thanks
Caleb

Brodix claims 80hp over stock ovals, but they don't say if that means ovals with big valves and a little gasket matching and bowl work or just bare bones stock heads. These heads have been talked about a lot on here and after all the machine work on a set of 049/781's are completed I might as well save a few more hundred, save a lot of weight off the front, and pick up some additional hp on top of that.

Caleb,
The spring you are referring to is not for most flat tappet cams. It is 370lbs at .600
Brodix has a number of different springs at no extra charge.
To answer your question the standard hyd roller spring will handle about .700 lift without issue.

If you email me I can probably save you a dollar to two on the Brodix
heads ;)
