Brake lights

I have '67 malibu when the headlights are off the brake lights work.At night when I turn the headlights on the taillights come on and stay on but when I press the brake the brake lights never come on. I haven't had a chance to dig into it yet I was just wondering if anyone might have seen anything like this before and might steer me in the right direction.

You have a bad ground at the tail/stop lights. Clean up the tail light housing mounting area or run a wire from them to a good ground source.
You could check it with a wire with alligator clips on it first.
