Mallory 140 Comp electric pump, 8 AN line to a Mallory non return style fuel pressure regulator which is dead headed to a pair of 6 AN lines. One to each bowl.

I've tried two different fuel pressure gauges on the body of the regulator itself and they both do the same thing. The fuel pressure gauge bounces around a 2-3 psi variance and it does not change with rpm. It is pretty much unreadable. Could this be a bad regulator?

Also, the fuel level in my rear bowl creeps up with the engine running for a few minutes. the only way to get it down is to work the secondary arm to use some of the fuel in the bowl. If I do that, the level creeps up again within a minute or so. What is going on here?

I'm thinking i might have to just go to a return style regulator...

Where is the regulator mounted? Are the gauges liquid filled? If so do they have a small plastic plug? Liquid filled sometimes are inaccurate and have to be "burped" by opening the plug to release excess air. Have you checked for a stuck float? Try tapping the bowl GENTLY and see what happens.

The regulator and gauge is mounted on the inner fender. Not liquid filled I believe. I haven't checked for a stuck float, its a brand new carb from pro systems...

i took the rear bowl off and reset the float. must have been stuck because it is fine now. I ruled it out at first since it was a brand new carb, but I should have known better...

The only issue i have is the jumping needle still. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the bypass screw sitting on the Mallory 140 pump I have. I did rebuild it sometime in the off season.
