OK I've taken a body off the frame on my old Corvette but have not done it on a Chevelle. I've searched the forum and seen the questions and answers about doing this but have not answered the specific question that I can find about lifting the body initially from the points where the body seams come together. I have a 2 post lift and was planning on catching the edges at the front and near the back at the cross brace. Is this ok?

I forgot to mention that I am planning leaving the front clip on but removing the hood, radiator and battery. It's a hardtop. Leaving the trunk lid on and the interior intact. After I get it off the frame I will get a better bite at the frame bolt points and put tall jack posts at front and rear. I need to get it up high enough to stand and clean and blast the under side. I have a weight gage on my lift so I will check and see how much this weighs.

That looks kind of sketchy the way your car is propt up on those dollys and cinder blocks.
Is it secure and safe? I have those same hf dollys and somtimes you have to give the car a little shove to get them rolling, be careful.

So far so good...;) I put it on the dollies of course so we can pull the frame out and move it to the middle of the garage...2 car only kinda tight. And I still pull my wives car in every night. Ha!! Been on there a yr now...So will see...

I did a station wagon body with an engine hoist. I put chains onto the seat belt bolt holes (the front ones on the trans tunnel and the back ones to the seat belt holes that are the furthest out towards the door panels) and carefully adjusted the chains so the car was balanced. I know it sounds sketchy, but it was fairly sturdy and all you have to do is get the body high enough to roll the frame out from under it and then mount the body on a rotiserre or put it on blocks. I would recommend the rotiserre if you don't like the taste of burnt undercoating. Fastest way to get the undercoating off is with a propane torch.
