Hey all,

after installing a radio in my 71 Chevelle the turn signals are not working anymore. No clicking, no indicators, no blinkers. The hazard signal is working though. I must have messed up something on the fuse box, but i haven't got a clue where.
Is there a fuse for the blinkers, if so, which one? Or is there a wire hooked up to the fuse box for the turn signals?

Sorry, but i'm really new on chevelle wiring.

Thanks for the help!

BTW I checked the "Dir. Signal" fuse, it's ok.
:( Just got the long awaited license plate, and now the turn signals aren't working :( geez...

Try trading the hazzard flasher can with the turn signal can. The are both the same. The turn signal can is under the dash. It is somewhere between the steering column and the radio.

You might have the wrong fuse size in there.

Hi again,

I tried to find the second flasher as you mentioned, John, but I couldn't find it. It seems like it has been replaced with a different one.

The only part i found is a little black box just right of the column that has three wires going to it: white, orange and purple. Its just hanging there, not mounted or anything. Could that be it? It's definitely not original, looks pretty new. The hazard light flasher only has two contacts, therefore i could not trade the two for testing purposes. Also i do not know which wire goes where.

The box looks like this:
http://www.bitron.it/products/auto/G5/Blinker3.gif

The one in my chevelle has a metal piece with a hole for a screw sticking out (Grounding or just mounting).

I measured one contact of that box and when i turn on the blinker, the voltage drops from 13V to 9V, on both directions. No clicking, no nothing.

Man, how am i supposed to ever fix that, it seems like a lot isn't original anymore. I have no idea where to start. Also i can't get original parts here in Germany.

Does anyone know if at least it's the right part I am looking at? Where does the original flasher sit (pic?)?

Thank you all and excuse my english,

Olli

That part is not the right one.
The original turn signal flasher can be round or square. It can be located on the top of the steering column. It has only 2 contacts on it.
One of the wires on it is purple. The purple wire comes from the big turn signal connector. The turn signal connector is mounted on the steering column.
Follow the purple wire.

John, the turn signal connector, is that a u-shaped thing with two wires which is kinda wrapped around the column (few inches above the pedals)?

Thank you John, i found it!

I followed the purple wire and it lead to the black box i mentioned earlier. So i traced the other two wires on the box and one of them was loose (the white one). The previous owner installed a second fuse box and i found a loose wire on it too. So I connected both of them and voila, turn signals work again. Geez. Thank you!

Hi again!

Another problem came up yesterday night, the turn signals do not work when the lights are on. What the heck?
What could that be?

Ok, I checked the brightness of all lights and they all look ok. The turn signals work until i switch on the headlights, then the flasher stops clicking and nothing happens anymore until i switch the headlights off again.

Ok, now this is really embarrasing, but I found the cause. I found out the loose wire on the flasher is ground and it was not connected right. Obviously the other loose wire to which I connected the flasher is connected to the switched 12v for the parking lights. That's why it didn't work. Sounds logical, doesn't it.

I connected it to ground now and everything is fine.
