I have a 66' coupe with a 402ci and a Harrison 4 core radiator. I currently have an aftermarket 5 blade aluminum flex fan that I want to remove the flex fan and use an original 4 blade steel fan. Will useing my original 4 blade steel fan with a fan shroud be enough to cool the car?

Also, is there a spacer between the 4 blade steel fan and the water pump? Or does the fan bolt directly to the water pump?

As always, thanks for your help (and education)!

Tod, I've been working through the same issues with my '67 396. It came with the wrong = 20 inch clutch fan. I replaced that with an original 4 blade fan with the shroud and wasn't happy with the cooling. (with the short water pump it does require a spacer) I've been trying to locate an original 5 blade, 17 1/2 Inch clutch fan on ebay, but they either go too high, or they haven't been right. I ordered a flex fan from Summit and it wouldn't clear the pulleys. Recently while browsing the GROUND UP catalog, i discovered that they now offer a repo "correct" 5 blade, 5 rivet, clutch fan. I ordered one and put it on last weekend. It fit perfectly, and looks great. Now I just have to wait for Spring to try it out.

Been there....I too had the same issues until I located an Original 18 inch, 35 degree, 7 blade fan for my 396 with a short water pump. This cools better than any fan I've ever owned. The 35 degree blades force more air than a flex and along with my Delco Fan Clutch-I won't be overheating this summer on the way to the beach in RI. I paid top dollar for the fan but it's worth just one Flatbed ride home at $250. Let me know if your interested as this old collector I found may have another. Again-Price is well over $200 but I think worth it for peace of mind..
