I have a set of virgin 3856208 heads, They are matching C 26 5 on both heads, There hasn't been any modifications to these heads. I've had them 20+ years wrapped up and well oiled. They are bare, I had them magged and cleaned before I put these away. I know these are for the Corvette 396 and believe the date codes are correct for the Z16 Chevelle. What months did they produce the Z16? Are these correct for the Z16? I'm looking to sell these and want a fair price for them when I do.

Those and the 391 castings are the most valuable. Today's economy has the price down from what they were a few years ago but will still make you very happy with what you'd get.

The corvette guys would offer you pennies just to turn around and ask a incredible amount of money for them so sit on them for best offer.. Don't let someone low ball you.

I sold a single for $750 a couple years ago. Wasn't looking to get that much but threw it on Ebay at a $200 starting bid and it went crazy. I would guess in today's economy easily over $1000 and close to $1500 to the right guy. The corvette guys would have them listed for $2500 +

Those are prime for '65 vette 396 or Z15. Matching dates too! I've seen them in the $3000+ range. If I were you I'd list them for auction and go for the best price. If you are a little unsure then set a reserve. One thing to keep in mind that the down turn in the economy hasn't touched every one. Good luck!

I had a set a few years back when the economy was much better, They were Sept 1965 and werent even matching. I ended up selling a bare set for $3500, They were Virgin heads. These from what I understand are ideal for the Z16, I think they made the Z16 Jan Feb and Mar, Maybe 1 month after that. Just curious, I'd like to sell them if the price was right But with this economy I may just have to sit on them

The C 26 5 date would work for a very limited number of Z16 engines. Most of them were late Feb and earlier March assembly dates. But a small percentage were late March and first few days of April.

But, as long as they have the triangle shaped casting symbol on the end of the heads, then they could still be used on an earlier motor, since you can't see the casting date anyway once the valve covers are on. So they are still a good pair either way.

Thanks Jeff, I'll keep that in mind. They are nice and actually thought of just building them up. I don't really want to use these on just anything. I'm the type of guy that would like to see these go on a correct car application and I know I'll never own a 65 Vette or a Z16 Chevelle
