Eddie, I made a puller and a installer tool by using a peice of all-thread, pipe, and large washers. I have seen the cast iron ears break by too much pounding. These coded rear ends cost too much for me to take a chance with mine. Food for thought!!!:yes:

I put mine in the freezer overnight they slid right in with a couple taps of a hammer. I wouldn't use a sledgehammer, unless you want to risk breaking the ears off.
I've been doing it that way for years. I should have mentioned I use a 5lb sledge with a short handle, not 10lb one you would use to break concrete with.

thanks for watching my vid. the rear housings are made from cast steel, not cast iron. it is much tougher. try taking a hammer to a old rear you have and break one of the front fins off, you will find out it is very tough. tom
