New to the Chevelle, I just bought a 69 Chevelle SS 396. Was wondering which interior kit was the best. I’ve looked at several, I’m needing basically to redo the entire interior. Also wonder the difference in stages of kits. Any help would be appreciated

Hi, welcome to the site.
Best advice... Don't buy resellers pre-selected kits.

There are multiple manufacturers for many of the reproduction parts included- the kits assembled by vendors rarely containing the "best" restoration parts. it locks you into buying whatever they have bundled (to their benefit)...

So do yourself a favor and research each part you need, don't trust a single reseller to have the best of everything in one box.

My $.02

For a 69, for covers and door panels Legendary Auto interiors is my preferred choice, TMI (stock style) would be my second choice.

For seat buns, American Cushion Industries is the best choice.

Hope that helps!

Rambo,

I think Legendary is #1 on Team Chevelle and they tell you American Cushion Industries is their supplier of cushions.

After I purchased my interior from Legendary, it took several weeks but my cushions are from American Cushions.

I researched them before buying over a year ago.

Thanks Beth- if you read my whole post, you'll see that I recommend both Legendary and ACI.

But Legendary doesn't sell an interior "Kit"... The OP is talking about the various complete interior kits that people like OPG and Ecklers sell... seat covers, buns, weatherstripping, headliner, door panels, window fuzzies the whole kitchen sink all bundled together, often labeled as Stage I, II, III, etc etc.... And people buy them because its attractive to get it all at once, and maybe cheaper than the individual parts- but the fact is the best quality items will never be part of those bundle deals because the cost to the resellers is much higher on the good stuff.

And I'm not sure I'd recommend an interior kit. I bought the unassembled Legendary door panels and then waited many months before they came in but was happy with their appearance once they got here.

Then pieced together everything else inside the cabin.

I bought items separately instead of the "Kit", USA made TMI headliner, sail panels & sun visors, USA made ACC carpet, PUI door & rear side panels are OK, no seat covers, you can buy an interior screw kit from most of the vendors, like Rambo said it's a little more $ and time consuming too but well worth it IMHO

If your interior is any color other than black, buy it all at the same time for color math purposes. I had a '68 with a red interior that I did all at once and everything was perfect. A year later I needed a front seat cover due to damage, I bought one from the same supplier and the same manufacturer and the color was so off that I could not use it. I had to get the damaged one inserted and dyed..

This is a very good point- Color, sheen & grain can all vary between Vinyl batches- especially important for colors, but even black can be affected- So definitely worth ordering stuff like door panels & seat covers at the same time from the same mfg.

Headliner is a different kind of vinyl, grain & sheen from seat covers & door panels so its not necessary to get get it at the same time / same mfg
