After several atempts to locate a decent factory

I know this probably won't help you much but I used a Goodmark steel cowl hood on my 67 and I think the fit is good.

I will second the vote one the Goodmark hood on a 67. Fit was good. Had a couple small dents left from the way it is made but were easy to fill and overall I have been satisfied.

The original steel 66 cowl hood I got from Goodmark fit horrible. I returned it and got a Goodmark SS hood (which fit pretty good). They were supposed to retool the Cowl hood, but I don't think they have released it yet.

I have one of the first hoods from Goodmark. The fit is OK. The trim piece across the front sits alittle high but the rest of it fits fine. If I'd caught the trim fit sooner I could have massaged the holes more to fit better. It did have some minor grind marks across the front nose that required some glaze filler to be applied, very minor tho. The back edge (cowl lip) is REAL close to the wiper arm.

I do still have the flat hood also.....

I had heard also they where retooling the cowl hood for 66.
place that sells them on ebay said he has the retooled ones and that the only thing they did was move the holes for front lip, and that it is still off.

I thought they were retooling the 66 hood for the contour to match the fenders better. Who knows.............

My problem with the fit was the contour matching the fenders. It was over 3/8" high in the center when the front and rear were level with the fenders.

New retooled hoods are out. I dont know on fit yet but we have one coming in.

Diesel, No, I took the hood off and returned it. If they had retooled quicker, I would have tried another one. I couldn't wait, so I bought a SS hood.

I will see where its coming from. My dad actually ordered it for the 66 300 we will be painting for him. Probably going to be a couple more months at least until I get it in my shop to see how it fits.

I like the SS hoods a lot better. Just my opinion of course. Especially since the 66's SS hood is specific to that year. Unless you need it for clearance or are gonna seal it to the hood for a real cowl induction.

Unfortunately, the 66 hood will not fit a 67 (at least it won't fit right at the front, it may bolt on though).

Just wanted to let everyone know I just found an OEM 66 SS hood today.
So, I will go with the SS hood.
I'm happy.

I think you'll be happier with that. It's classic and will never go out of style. I love mine and if I have to get another hood to cut a hole in for my tunnel ram it will be a fiberglass SS style.
