I have a question, My stepdad has a 57 Bel air with a 502/T-56, and I have a 70 Chevelle with the 350/290 and a Th350 rebuilt with a shift kit. And I'm lookin for a way to be able to blow his doors off, For least ammount of money, and be able too still drive to school. My motor is stock with a 600 cfm carb, GMPP intake, Hooker competition headers dumped to flowmaster super 40s, my rearend is a stock 12 bolt with open 2.73 gears. Any and all help is appreciated.

Only way this is going happen for you "cheaply" you will need to do either of the following - throw spike strips under his tires in the staging lane prior to the race and slip some vicodin or something into his coffee / drinks and hope he misses a shift or falls asleep at the light....shake a plug wire or two loose and hope he still wont beat you on 7 cylinders....or maybe tell your real dad he's threatening you and get him to break stepdads shifting hand. ;) :D

The only way your going to get off "cheap" is to disable his car or driving skills somehow.

Otherwise - 3.73 or 4.10 gears, posi and see if your SB will handle a 300 shot of n20. Or sell your SB and buy a used 502 and throw a 100 shot on it.

Cheapest power is n20 but your gearing sucks and to get the power you want or need to beat stepdad I think you'll end up breaking things.

My opinion only - disable stepdad or stepdads car

Toss him a viagra and tell him you'll meet him in front of the local women's workout center. Hopefully he'll forget about the race.

#1. You are going to need a lot of money
#2. Chevy 620 cubes -720 hp
#3. A bullet proof TH400
#4. A Moser 9" rear
#5. All the stuff in between to make it run and live
#6. A lot of experience in handling that much power.

my advise is to stay on stepdads good side and inherit his car. LOL

Or look at this way, at 16 you have a much better car then I did at your age.
How old is dad?. He can purchase that stuff at his age, you are just getting started in life and have a great car to start out with too!!!!!!!!!!!! Be patient, you will get there.

What everyone is trying to say, is that your not going to do it with that motor. If you add any serious power adders (aka nitrous, supercharger) the motor is toast and your out of a car until fixed.

Save your clams for a rebuild and new gearing and tell him to wait a while. General ballpark for the rebuild cost will be $1000 per 100 horsepower

Your flat out not going to do it with what you have now.

Not to mention the 2.73 open rear.

Chevyboy. your stepdads 57 weighs about 3200lbs, Your velle weighs about 3800lbs. The extra 600lbs means that you'll need about 100hp more then him to run the same numbers. Thats 550 to 602hp out of a 350sb.
The only way to do that is a complete rebuild with top of the line parts. That means forged everything. That will get you into the 450hp to 500hp range and then you'll need a good nitrous kit to get the rest.
With the mods needed to make that kind of power, You will be taking a lot of the streetability out of it.
Then you will need a th400 and a good converter to handle the power. And 4.11 gears and a posi unit in the rear.
All said and done, You will have 6 or 8 grand into a car that you won't be able to drive on the street.
Bottom line is, Going fast cost $$$$$. The cheapest way to do it is cubic inches.

Lots of spray once you're rolling (to minimize the 'effect' of the open rear) and hope it holds together.

Do you have cash to put into this or what? Traction aids (including a limited-slip rear) would help, as would good tires.

The numbers shared above are real (and accurate- nice job furball!) and you're really looking at a challenge here.

The way I see it - you've got one 'Hail Mary' pass to make on spray. I'd use a 2-stage setup- hit one early, and once you get halfway through second gear, hit the other on top of it.

Honestly, you'll probably break something. You might break lots of things.

I wouldn't advise doing this at all.

However...if you're going to try it, that's what I'd try. Get some good tires, a posi unit, and a lot of spray...and expect something like a U-joint, connecting rod, axle, or transmission to break.

Now, once you're ready to do a good engine rebuild, follow this:

That's my personal engine buildup, and it really works! You'll need to beef up the trans and rear axle to take it, though.

Bore and stroke to 383, (forged rotating ass.) Good heads like afr195's or brodeck Race-Rite 200, A quality cam, and a 850cfm carb. Will get you started

or maybe do a 383 stroker, to about 500 hp and spray it or... throw a supercharger on it. that the only way i see it happenign with that motor. and even that might not even be enought to beat him. thats still trying to keep up. thats one hell of a bet there man. best bet get a tired 454 and rebuild it. that way youll have at least a fighting chance. good luck.
