I have an original '69 SS 396 Chevelle with a partial build sheet. It has a bench seat with an automatic on the column. I plan on leaving it that way because that's the way the car came from the factory and being it's so original. Everyone keeps telling me to change it over to bucket seats and some say to change it to a 4 speed. I really want to leave it alone but I get a lot of strange looks because of the bench seat.

I'd be willing to bet that there were more bench seat cars produced than bucket seat cars. Everybody justs changes it over the years to bucket seats.
What do you think?

BTW, the car is factory code 10 tuxedo black with a parchment interior. A lot of black ones running around that weren't originally black also.

If were me, I would keep the bench. It seems to be the way you want stay anyway.
Alot of people switch to buckets and you see very few SS with the bench.
I am looking for a bench for my 66SS that someone swapped in buckets years ago.

Most important is to do want you want and will enjoy

I just bought a 66Ss that has trim tag ,pop, window sticker ,all indicating that the car was an original 3 spd, bench, the car was being sold with 4spd, buckets, I was fortunate enough to get the original#'s transmission and original bench after I bought the car, is it a nicer car with the 4spd and buckets? maybe , depends on what your into, however I'm putting the car back to the way it left the factory because thats what I believe is nicer, I've seen pic's of my car with the bench and it looks nice, then you add the rareness of a 3spd and it didn't take long for me to decide.
If your into originality then leave it be.
