PLEASE HELPAny thoughts or suggestions would be very helpful.
Just for the record the 305 ran for 3 years without heating?/
I have just rebuilt a 350 motar and instaled it in my 68 Beaumont convertable, the motar was a 305 before. The new rebuild has the old camel back heads so i had to go with the older type water pump ,it sticks out a little bit more. The old 305 had a rebuilt 3 core rad with the tanks on the side. When drving the car cools fine it is that if i reve it up a little and or each time i take it for a drive it drains out about a quqrt or so of anti freeze. If i dont add it will just drain out more the next time i take it out?
I did try adding a overflow tank but this dosnt help,it dosnt drain back in the rad? Today i started and stoped a few times and it just overheated by the end of the day.I had a 16 lbs rad cap and tried a 8 lbs cap to day and there was no difference.
Is it the fact that my rad has the tanks on the sides not the top and bottom, i hate to buy a new rad without being some what shore?

Thats what i was hoping at first, took it out and it spit out about a quart then the next day it spit out another quart then i took it out again and it sent the temp gaguage crazy ,it was down to far in anti freze .I then started toping it up every trip of 20 miles or so.I then tried buting a windshield tank on as a over flow. All this is doing is saving the anti freze so when i go to the car when its cool i dump it back in the rad.
Today i left it in the tank and it was full when i parked it 4 hrs ago,i just checked it and the bottle is completly full.It addes everytime i run it and i am confused????????
The temp gauage is now has the censer in the center head becase of the older camle back heads so when the fluid gets low the gauage goes nutss
The motar is cooling it is the cooling system that is causing me all the pain???
That for any help anyone can give....arttie61

Does it overheat when driving on the highway? When going slow? All the time? You mentioned changing from a short water pump to a long water pump. That would put the fan blades further into the shroud and that can be a problem. Ideally, the bades should be about half in, half out of the shroud. There are lot of reasons why an engine can overheat and more information from you may help us help you better.

I will try to explain a little better. When i start out and rad is full car is cold ,i drive and let warm up and i think i could drive for days .It is if i give it some RPM that it blows out the anti freeze. Now if i put 20 miles on or so and rew it at intersections a little the coolent will be down about a qourt the next time i check before i go out,if i fill it up it does the same thing again.
If i dont fill it up and go out it will bloww another quart out as well ,now it is down 2 quarts and at intersection the level in the rad is so low sometimes that it really heats up ,the guage goes way up partly becase of the heat and partly because the sencer for the gauage is in the center head because of the cammel backs.
The fan is in a little different spot but there is a shroud at least, the fan in a multly fined after market?maybe this the problem but you would think it would just over hear not through coolent down the overflow hose.
As i mentioned before i tryed rigging up a overfolow tank ,all it does is keep the coolent so i can reuse it and the cap on rad made no difference???????? Please all you Chevy people give this some thought .. Let me know your thoughts

The gauge reads about 160,190 when full of fluid as well it reads the same temps when on highway or city. Once it starts to get some miles on it and blowing anti freze it still runs about the same 190 and a little higher 220 when out on the higway but when it is low on coolent and idling at a stop the gauage will go all the way around the dial180,260,340, and back around it does this in about 20 seconds (the motar is not geting that hot ) i think it must be steam in the center head.
The car is blowing out the coolent? has anyone everheard of a issue with the different tank locations? rads ??as in side tanks compared to top and bottom tanks??
