I've been using the same set of Moroso rubber/steel core valve cover gaskets for over 6 years now. I was checking the lash this afternoon and found signs of leakage. The holes aren't tight around the studs anymore and they are sliding around.

I remember having a set of stock replacement valve cover gaskets from Fel Pro for my Suburbans 454 TBI engine. These gaskets were rubber with a steel core, but also had bushings at the bolt holes to eliminate overtightening and squishing the gaskets out.

Anyone happen to know the part number of the Fel Pro gaskets? What I had was an upper end gasket kit, not the individual gaskets.

Also, I see Earl's offers a similar design gasket, but are more expensive. The Moroso's are $48/pr and the Earl's are $63/pr.

I cannot stand cork gaskets, so don't even mention them. lol.

Any suggestions as an option to the Moroso's which might include a bushing at the bolt hole would be appreciated.

I've had a set of FelPro # 1635 on my big block for the last 5 years and they are molded silicone rubber with steel inserts quite similar to your old ones. They have been on and off many times for valve lash adjustments with no problem. They arent cheap, around $ 45 apiece at Jegs.I'm like you,the cork ones are not for me.

Call a GM dealer and ask for a gasket set for a 1988 K3500 Truck with a 7.4. I forget the price but they're an awsome steel shim and rubber gasket set.

My old '89 Suburban with the TBI 454 had the same setup. I was gonna change heads way back (thought one was cracked) and got a Fel Pro top end gasket kit (OEM type gasket kit, not performance). The valve cover gaskets in that kit were the same rubber w/steel core and torque limiting bushings.

Todd,
I am using the Felpro 1635 gaskets. They work great and are a bit cheaper than the Moroso. About $42/pair.
